In North Seattle, on a spring day in 1949, Mike Martin brushed his hair back, straightened his tie, then reached down and took off his shoes—just like Joshua from the Old Testament. As he walked barefoot across those spectacular 55 acres in Shoreline, he claimed Joshua 1:3 ("Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you…") and believed God for a miracle. He had no idea he was helping to plant a seed that would grow into the family of ministries we have today.

God answered Mike Martin’s cry and “King’s Garden”—now
CRISTA Ministries—was born.

By the fall of 1950, 20 seniors lived on the CRISTA campus. In time, 78 residential apartments were added. In 1984, Cristwood Park was built adding an additional 199 independent apartments. In 1985, CRISTA Senior Living opened the first Assisted Living in the Seattle area. In 1994, Crista Shores opened in Silverdale, on the Kitsap Peninsula.

Today, CRISTA Senior Living is a vibrant Continuing Care Retirement Community… serving over 700 senior in Shoreline and Silverdale.
