In North Seattle on a spring day in 1949, Mike Martin Sr. brushed his hair back, straightened his tie, then reached down and took off his shoes—just like Joshua. As he walked barefoot on the spectacular fifty-five acres in North Seattle he claimed Joshua 1:3 and believed God for a miracle.

He believed God for a place where compassion and love could be spread throughout the northwest.

God answered Mike Martin’s cry and Kings Garden—now CRISTA Ministries—was born.

By fall of 1950, twenty seniors lived on the CRISTA campus. In time, seventy-eight residential apartments were added. In 1984, Cristwood was built which added an additional 199 Independent apartments. In 1985 CRISTA Senior Living opened the first Assisted Living in the Seattle area.

Today CRISTA Senior Community is an accredited Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) with 279 residential apartments, 81 Assisted Living units, and a 167-bed Nursing Center.
